Digital Marketing Strategies for Small Business

Sometimes, the change in the seasons and weather is just the wake up call you need to start re-thinking your digital marketing strategy. If you're a little lost with where to start, here is what we recommend:

The leaves are falling. Don't let your marketing strategy have the same fate.

1. Check your Stats.

No, not your stat holidays. Your statistics. Your analytics. You have them on social media platforms and your website, not to mention Google My Business and Google Console. Take a look at what needs improvement.

It might be:

a) Low-Ranking SEO

Check here for more information on what you can do to understand what Search Engine Optimization is and what you can do.

b) Low Social Media Engagement

Think of it like making a friend: you need to be a friend to get a friend. You need to engage on social media to get engagement. Read here on how to create more engagement by devoting just 30 minutes a day. Think of it as an excuse to actually sit down with your coffee in one hand, phone in the other. Not so bad, eh?

2. Decide on a goal, or a 𝘸𝘩𝘺 for this season and leading into the next.

Is there a theme? Are you supporting a charity as we head closer to Christmas? Are you planning any big sales, etc? Make sure you’re on top of those and get the details ironed out.

3. Create Facebook and Instagram ads, and don’t ignore TikTok, either.

None of these platforms sponsor this post. This is just us telling you what we know works. Social media ads, particularly Facebook (which owns Instagram, so there’s crossover), give you a large range of options in choosing a target audience. This allows you to get really creative with your ads. It’s also cost-effective. As for TikTok specifically, if you’ve spent any time on it recently, you may have noticed that a lot of the biggest companies in the world (*cough McDonald’s cough*) are advertising on TikTok. How could you not be Lovin’ It, and create your own ads for the platform as well?

We don’t recommend you 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 annoying your family, but you can annoy them 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 . . .

4. Do an honest, objective search on your website. Do you need to:

a) Update photos that are stale and out of season?

Photos are crucial to the appeal and success of your website. Make sure they are high-quality and attractive.

b) Overhaul the menus to make it more intuitive and user-friendly?

Keep them simple. Put the most popular items at the top and bottom of the list.

c) Are pages taking forever to load?

Are there videos slowing down the load-time that don't need to be there? Make sure photos are compressed to smaller sizes to make load-time faster. We recommend Squoosh App.

d) Is it mobile-friendly?

This is essential. Globally, nearly 70% of website visits were done using a mobile device in 2020.

5. Become the Paparazzi.

Every moment can be a photo moment. We don’t recommend you 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 annoying your family, but you can annoy them 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 for the sake of getting some really great content for social media. Our rule is that you can never have too much!

6. Add Instagram Reels and TikTok videos into your schedule.

They aren’t as scary as they seem. Once you’ve embarrassed yourself once, it gets a lot easier. We say start out strong!

Now that you have a list, it's time to get started.
