How to Create the Ultimate List of Hashtags For Your Small Business

Hashtags are a way for people to follow topics on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social networks. They're also useful when searching for content on those sites.

If you tag your content properly, it can be found by those searching your niche. Also, if you tag your content properly, the algorithm will put it in front of people who are interested in your niche and your business.

Have you asked yourself, "what hashtags should I use on Instagram?" Or TikTok, etc? We have your answer.

Here are some easy ways that you can create a list of hashtags for your brand or business:

1. Use Hashtags with Your Business Name

Create at least one hashtag that is specific to your brand and your business name.

ie: We use #catscove

We tag all our posts with our name so if anyone clicks/taps on it, all our posts are there for them to check out. You can also use different/full/short form names, ie: We sometimes use #catscovecommunications or #catscovecomm

2. Create Hashtags for Your Business Type

Categorize posts by labeling it with industry-related hashtags. What is your industry? Does it go by several names? Think big and small.

We have various hashtags for content about websites, and different hashtags when we post something about Instagram or blogs.

3. Use Hashtags for Your Client (Audience Type)

Think about who your ideal customers are and try to reach them with hashtags they might be seeking out, or that the algorithm is showing them based on their likes and interests.

Categorize content based on your ideal client. Here are some other examples to get you thinking: #adventureseekers #bossbabes #gardener #outdoorgardeners etc., etc.

4. Make Hashtags About a Product or Service

What is it that you do for your customers and clients? What service do you provide, and what products do you sell? You don't need to include every product or service. You can create a larger list, and then pull relevant hashtags from your list for individual posts.

You can think about these more like search terms as well, ie: #fashion2022 #whatdogseat #backtoschoolshopping #wheretoeatperth #manipedis, etc.

5. Use Local Hashtags

This is one of the easiest ways to get found because people living in or visiting your area will be shown more local hashtags. These same people may also be searching for your type of business near them.

You can keep it super close to home with the name of your neighbourhood (if you're in a city), or the name of your town. You can expand it to your province, territory or state and even the country (particularly if you ship products nation-wide).

6. Use Seasonal Hashtags

This one doesn't really apply to us because we're not a seasonal company and our products and services don't change with seasons. However, many businesses do and yours just might be one of them.

Write 2-3 for each category (if relevant) and you'll have a decent list! You can pull relevant hashtags from that list to add to your posts on Instagram and TikTok, and in a smaller quantity, to Twitter and Facebook.
